About usANIMAL RIGHTS LITHUANIA is an informal organization, "Gerbk gyvūnų teises!" (translated from Lithuanian as "Respect animal rights!"), with activists from all around Lithuania. It is the only organization of it’s kind in the country. ANIMAL RIGHTS LITHUANIA is not yet legally registered, but intends to have a non-profit status (NGO) in the near future. The goals of the organization include introducing the concept of animal rights to the people of Lithuania. We also intend to provide detailed information on veganism in which we argue that a plant-based diet is not only good for animals, but also contributes to our healthy lifestyle and reduces the negative impact we have upon the environment. This has been achieved through published literature, this website, information stalls and various actions and lectures (see pictures from our activities). ANIMAL RIGHTS LITHUANIA believes that a creative, nonviolent, vegan education is the best way to reduce animal suffering and death, on a both short and long-term basis. Our activities are based on the work of our volunteers. Thanks to donations, we are able to print leaflets, organize events and street stalls, travel to hold lectures and much more. In the near future we are planning to have a paid staff that would be responsible for the effective planning and organization of the work of our volunteers and subsequent activities. ANIMAL RIGHTS LITHUANIA was formed gradually. A pre-cursor was a mailing list created in 2001 for Lithuanian animal rights activists. The first meetings were held in 2002 and random actions and information street stalls have existed since then. The turning point was in 2006, when this website and an interactive forum were launched, helping to attract many new people and mobilize activists. This enabled them to work together so that the areas of activity have greatly expanded. ANIMAL RIGHTS LITHUANIA collaborates or has in some way cooperated or had a closer contact with the Lithuanian Green Movement (LT), Greens Žali.lt (LT), ANIMALIA (FIN), Djurens Rätt (SWE), Swedish Food and Environment Information (SWE), PETA (USA), PETA UK (UK), Animal Aid (UK), Baltic animal rights groups and some other organizations. If you represent an organization or a business that is interested in assisting ANIMAL RIGHTS LITHUANIA in a financial or any other way we would be very glad to hear from you. |
