Aug. 17, 2008 - Protests Against Circuses with Animals

At the end of August ANIMAL RIGHTS LITHUANIA held a campaign against circuses with animals. Meanwhile, a traveling water circus involving sea lions and crocodiles among other animals performed in three cities of Lithuania.

Animal protectionists in Kaunas distributed information about animal circuses and collected signatures for a petition demanding a ban on the use of animals in circuses in Lithuania. This was followed by a performance near the circus venue in Vilnius and was widely reported in the Lithuanian press:

People attending the circus performances in both Kaunas and Vilnius were given flyers about animal abuse in circuses which also suggested alternatives, namely "New Circus Weekend", featuring three animal-free circuses, to appear in Vilnius and Klaipėda in September.
